The Gospel

When they asked Peter what shall they do (to be saved), he did not respond by telling them to just have faith alone, say a sinner’s prayer, invite Jesus into their hearts, to only just trust in the finished work of the cross, or that God had wonderful plan for their lives. No. This is not found in scripture. What is found in scripture is what Peter said to them:

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” – Acts 2:38 KJV

We must not only have faith in Jesus, but we also must believe His words and DO them. Just as Jesus humbled Himself in obedience even to the point of death on a cross, was buried, and rose on the third day, we must also follow His example and take up our own crosses, humble ourselves and turn away from our sins in repentance, bury the old life of sin in baptism, and be raised to a new life by receiving the Holy Spirit. We then have communion with Jesus and we must abide in Him by walking humbly with Him and obeying Him to the end. (See Micah 6:8, Matt, 24:13, Luke 9:23-27, John 15:1-10, 1 John 3:24)
